The IBS which is the Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder similar to bloating and indigestion. It requires treatment because it can be a very great source of discomfort to the affected person. Probiotics have been in use to help in the treatment and control of this syndrome. You may have heard about this fact but did not quite comprehend the whole story behind it. The probiotics for IBS treatment is a great and healthy medical therapy.

Probiotics are small microorganisms which are living. They are the good type of bacteria. Unlike the bacteria commonly known for causing diseases in the body of humans, the bacteria in this case can have great health benefits especially if consumed in great amounts. They are highly present in foods and supplements. The normal body carries up to 500 species of these bacteria. Their function is to keep the body immune system healthy and also protect the intestines.

Using antibiotics destabilizes the balance of healthy bacteria residing in the gastrointestinal tract. This imbalance causes the intestine linings to get destroyed. The destruction of intestines is dangerous as it can result in wounds commonly known as the ulcers. The introduction of these probiotic microorganisms into the intestines restores and stabilizes the balance which had previously been destroyed. This helps correct the damage on the intestinal linings.

There are studies that have been conducted by researchers to show the responsiveness of the IBS symptoms towards different probiotic bacterium.

The bifidobacterium has shown some consistent improvement with various symptoms of the irritable bowel syndrome. These are gas and bloating. Other many studies which have been undertaken to examine the benefit of these microorganisms in IBS are however small and of generally low quality.

The bacteria can help regulate motility, immune and sensation. The probiotics come in many different forms. They can be in form of pills, capsules, powder or liquid state. There can also be combinations of different organisms in one. Yeast has also been observed to have some probiotic effects. Studies have been advanced to study the effect of these dead bacteria in this treatment.
